Irfandy Farwezy Hamzah (born 5 July 1989) or better known by his stage name Darryl Wezy, is an Indonesian singer-songwriter and musician who released his debut album Maze of Fears under the independent labels Ivy League Music and Rooftop Sound in 8 October 2012. Darryl was raised in Jakarta, Indonesia and found his obsession towards the 90’s bands on MTV Alternative Nation. He also got music references from his parents such as Perry Como, Connie Francis, The Beatles, Simon May, and many more. Darryl loves to collect cassettes and CD from the bands he saw in MTV and started to learn how to play guitar, then write the songs since 13. The first song that he made called Rainy Day in 2002.

Darryl Wezy was a pseudonym name that he got when he was daydreaming in the class. He surely wanted to use this name if he could be a musician or writer someday. Despite of his loneliness in childhood with a few friends he could get, Darryl always spends his time to read the books or write the lyrics every lunch time in the class.

During his studies in the college, he finally met up with his friend who introduced him as an intern to David Tarigan from Aksara Records and Aghi Narottama from Rooftop Sound. Wezy also get involved to help some of the independent bands in Jakarta for the promotion matters during his internship. At the moment, he was asking Aghi to make a radio single for him. Nevertheless, it has been delayed about a year. And apparently, Wezy participated in online music audition which led him become the first winner in 2010. Soon, Wezy visited Rooftop Sound, which is Aghi Narottama’s production house. He was asking Narottama to help him on music production. Narottama accepted and they began to record the materials around April 2011 – May 2012.

He stated his music has been influenced mostly by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and The Papas, Aphrodite’s Child, The Free Design, Pulp, Ash, The Cardigans, Travis, Weezer, Melanie C, The Concretes, The Lightning Seeds, The High Llamas, Sondre Lerche, Sufjan Stevens, Sore (band) and White Shoes & The Couples Company. He found his obsession with manga and anime soundtracks from One Piece, Crayon Shinchan, Chibi Maruko-chan, and also J-Pop acts such as Ikimono-gakari, Shugo Tokumaru, Perfume (Japanese band), Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Shonen Knife, and even AKB48.

He graduated in Mass Communication and recently earned his Master’s Degree in Marketing Communication from The London School of Public Relations Jakarta.
